About the Blue Wave Postcard Movement

The Blue Wave Postcard Movement is dedicated to increasing civic engagement and voter turnout through grassroots efforts. We mobilize volunteers to write postcards encouraging citizens to vote, ensuring every voice is heard. Our team is passionate about democracy, community building, and making a tangible difference in the electoral process as well as policymaking. Since 2020, Blue Wave Postcards’ all-volunteer, women-led team has designed, printed and distributed over 13 million postcards. Our postcards have been proven to be a great way to register, inform, and turnout low-propensity, pro-democracy voters, especially when paired with other forms of outreach conducted by our campaign partners.

About the Position

We are seeking our first full-time Executive Director to join our dynamic, currently all-volunteer team and support the organization’s next chapter. This role will report to the Founding President, who to date has been leading Blue Wave Postcard Movement’s campaigns, partner outreach, volunteer team management, and financial oversight; over the coming year, the Executive Director will take over these responsibilities and play an integral role in shaping and implementing the organization’s vision. As the only paid staff person, the ideal candidate for this role is a collaborative and adaptable leader who is deeply committed to social and environmental justice and able to inspire, recruit and support volunteer leaders across the country to lead effective campaigns.

This position is based in or around Boulder, Colorado. Most work will be remote, though there will be infrequent in-person meetings and events with the organization’s volunteer team.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Founding President to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan, which will include clear benchmarks to measure the organization’s impact and outline opportunities for growth and expansion.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization’s programs and ensure that they are highly effective and aligned with the organization’s strategic plan and mission.
  • Support the organization’s growth by expanding the network of postcard writing groups across the country; this can be accomplished with outreach to potential new groups and leaders, developing new strategies to recruit and support volunteers, and conducting information sessions or webinars to onboard new groups.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to increase the organization’s visibility and reach; ensure that the website and social media accounts are up-to-date and effectively communicate the organization’s impact and activities.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to launch new campaigns; oversee the entire postcard program including postcard design, kit assembly and distribution, target list acquisition and follow up to accomplish a high success rate.
  • Develop and cultivate strategic partnerships with a diverse set of organizations that can provide target lists and follow up to postcard recipients with calls, texts, digital ads, and/or patch-through calls.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that empowers volunteer leaders to deepen their involvement and contribute their unique talents and strengths.
  • Promote the organization’s work to key stakeholders and the media to increase awareness and support for the organization’s mission.
  • Represent the organization at public events and speaking engagements, as appropriate.
  • Evaluate and report on the organization’s outcomes on an ongoing basis, using data and feedback from volunteers and partners to make improvements as needed.
  • Ensure that all programs are in compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • Passion for the organization’s mission and a strong belief in the power of grassroots organizing and strategic mobilization to achieve electoral and policy wins.
  • At least two years of experience working on electoral or advocacy campaigns; extensive experience with volunteer coordination and community outreach is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteer leaders, partners, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial management is preferred but not required.

Compensation

This is a contract position with annual pay ranging between $80,000 – $120,000, depending on experience. While Blue Wave Postcards is unable to offer benefits to 1099 contractors, compensation will account for benefit-related costs that the contractor may incur.
