Covenant House PA is a force united by a promise to end youth homelessness as we know it in Pennsylvania. For over 25 years, we’ve led the way with community health initiatives and advocacy in local communities in Philadelphia and York. Covenant House PA provides shelter and a continuum of care for youth experiencing homelessness or commercial exploitation to make a significant impact with this critical issue.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Institutional Grants Manager is responsible for researching and writing grant proposals to fund Covenant House’s initiatives and programs as well as all aspects of developing successful grant proposals, coordinating input across the organization as needed. The Manager is responsible for all reporting and follow-up with funded grants. Manager is responsible for administrative oversight of federal, state, and/or local government grants, foundation and religious-based grants, and researching new grant opportunities as well as renewing existing grants received by Covenant House.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, research, develop, and write compelling grant proposals for current and potential
public and private funders (government, foundations, religious-based organizations, etc.)
- Manage follow-up invoicing and reporting as required by grantors
- Facilitate site visits and cultivation activities as needed
- Collaborate with staff to create strategies for funding growth and assess funding opportunities
- Meet regularly with Development and Program staff to evaluate priorities and funding prospects
- Work with the Program team to align goals, objectives, and outcome reporting with grant
requirements
- Coordinate the preparation of proposals, including task management, narrative writing, data
reporting, and budget development with finance, program, and leadership, as appropriate to
ensure alignment with program and organizational needs
- Ensure high-quality, timely submission of proposals and reports
- Reconcile grant revenue and expenses with the Finance department
- Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to create the annual revenue strategy
- Acknowledge and recognize grant awards promptly
- Maintain a database to track grant deadlines, submissions, and awards
- Build and nurture relationships with key funder contacts through meetings and other
engagement methods
- Support fiscal needs assessments in alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic plan
- Attend events to market Covenant House and build donor networks
- Review and interpret RFPs and related documents
- Participate in additional Covenant House programs and activities as needed
- Foster effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and external stakeholders
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
You are an excellent fit for this role if you:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in related field (preferred) and have a minimum of three years’ grant
writing experience.
- Have experience working in a donor database; working in human service agencies and/or
experience with homelessness populations.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, including
the ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of an organization.
- Are flexible, amiable, and willing to work as a team player
- Have strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Are a self-starter with excellent organizational skills who can work with minimal supervision.
- Have strong computer skills and literacy in Microsoft Office Suite with a concentration in Excel
and Word.
- Have a passion for Covenant House and the ability to convey Covenant House’s mission to
funders.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Have secured and managed federal or state contracts and understand compliance requirements.
- Are familiar with logic models, outcome measurement, and budgeting for proposals.
- Have worked with Program teams to design fundable initiatives and evaluation plans.
- Have written winning proposals for foundations with complex application processes.
- Are experienced with Salesforce, EveryAction, or grant-tracking databases.
- Have familiarity and experience with federal, state and City of Philadelphia grant application processes
