Do you thrive on meaningful grassroots work that empowers others to become financially independent and confident leaders? If yes, Hope Designers Project invites you to apply for the position of Community Mobilizer

About Us

Hope Designers is a project of Kar Geno, a non-profit organization working to empower communities through a variety of strategies. Based in Manyatta, Kisumu, Hope Designers supports HIV-affected women by equipping them with professional tailoring skills and entrepreneurship training, enabling them to start and sustain their own fashion businesses.

We are not driven by profit — we are fueled by purpose. Our mission is to transform lives, unlock potential, and uplift entire communities through the empowerment of women.

We are currently in partnership with Global Mamas, a fair-trade social enterprise headquartered in Minneapolis, USA, whose mission is to create lasting prosperity for African women and their families — prosperity that includes good health, happiness, and empowerment.

Our Mission

We aim to empower women in Kisumu’s informal settlements to achieve socio-economic independence. Through business development training, personal development, and hands-on skills, our women become not just entrepreneurs — but community changemakers.

Our approach is holistic: we begin by helping women rediscover their self-worth, ignite their passions, and provide the tools they need to succeed in business and life.

Position Overview

This is a part-time position on an annual contract. The program runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, aligning with the days our women participate in tailoring and training sessions. These women are the primary breadwinners in their families, so we give them the other days for personal responsibilities, creating a balanced and respectful work rhythm for both participants and staff. There is potential for promotion to full-time based on performance, dedication, and program growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruitment of women participants through community outreach, barazas, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Attend chief barazas, community gatherings, and health talks in HIV care clinics, sensitizing women about the program and its opportunities.
  • Help in interviewing and assessing applicants to ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Maintain participant attendance records and follow up on absences.
  • Support and co-lead training sessions and educational program events.
  • Collaborate with local partners, vendors, and international volunteers.
  • Help manage product inventory and materials used in tailoring and table banking.
  • Contribute to marketing, community engagement, and social media content when needed.
  • Assist in purchasing and organizing supplies, and coordinating logistics with program vendors.
  • Participate in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program impact.
  • Maintain accurate program records and files, both digital and hardcopy.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Director.

Ideal Candidate MUST Have:

  • At least a Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with vulnerable women or in women’s empowerment programs.
  • Experience with international volunteers and/or donor-funded projects is a plus.
  • Interest in or experience with entrepreneurship and business development.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Swahili/Luo is an advantage).
  • Ability to manage participants with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Comfort working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to communicate via email and Zoom/Skype.
  • Passion for community work, aligned with our values and mission.
